MURPHYSBORO -- A Murphysboro man has been sentenced to two years in prison for recklessly firing a gun.

Ronald Sanders, 23, was convicted in November of reckless discharge of a firearm.

Prosecutors say on July 31, after being asked to leave a party, Sanders became upset and fired a gun into the air near the intersection of East Jackson and North Wall Streets in Carbondale.

After that, authorities say several shots were fired on Jackson Street and one of those hit and killed 32-year-old Donathan Brown as he was standing in his yard. That shooting is still under investigation.
