Murphysboro Man Arrested for Attempted Armed Robbery
MURPHYSBORO -- A Murphysboro man is in custody after police say he confessed to trying to rob a gas station.
James Weston, 40, of Murphysboro, is charged with attempted aggravated robbery.
Just before 9 p.m. Sunday, a man with a gun entered the Amstar gas station and demanded money. The store clerk refused and the man left.
Murphysboro Police released information about the incident, along with surveillance images, to the media Monday evening. On Tuesday morning, police say Weston came to their department requesting to "turn himself in."
Weston is being held in the Jackson County Jail pending a court appearance.
It was the second attempted robbery at Amstar in as many days.
Jo Lynn Gentry, 31, of Murphysboro, was arrested after an attempted armed robbery Saturday night. Gentry showed the clerk a knife and demanded money but then ran away when the clerk had a taser.
A preliminary hearing for Gentry is scheduled for Feb. 11.
