Multi-Vehicle Collision Shuts Down I-57

By WSIL Manager

WILLIAMSON CO. -- An early evening crash on Interstate 57 Saturday caused quite a headache for drivers. It happened around 5:30 p.m. on the southbound lanes of the interstate.

Illinois State Police say four vehicles were involved, two sedans and two semi trucks. Troopers say an unknown semi struck one of the sedans before fleeing, causing a chain reaction. The same sedan was then struck by the second one, which was eventually hit by the second semi that couldn't avoid the collision.
Officials closed the interstate for about an hour and a half to clean up the scene. Three people received injuries in the crash. ISP is still investigating.
