Mt. Vernon Residents Celebrate Dr. King

By Matthew Searcy

MT. VERNON -- People in Mt. Vernon are among those celebrating the life of Martin Luther King, Jr.

On Monday morning, the city hosted its 29th annual luncheon at the Cedarhurst Arts Center. Guests were treated to music and food. Guest speakers talked about Dr. King's impact on Civil rights and race relations in our country.
"If we forget the mistakes of the past then we are subject to repeat them," said Rev. Ron Lash. "You can go along and things are going good that you can forget those things that happened in the past. And if you aren't careful you can go backwards instead of forwards."
This was the first year the MLK event was celebrated at the Art Center in Mt. Vernon.
