FRANKLIN COUNTY-- Motorcycle riders gathered in Royalton on Saturday to support military members returning to college.

A riding club, called "The Leathernecks ", is composed of retired and active U.S. Marines.

The group held a poker run on Satruday to raise money for a John A. Logan College Scholarship. The ride started in Royalton and made stops in DuQuoin and West Frankfort.

Saturday's weather delivered scattered showers throughout the day. That didn't stop the group.

"If you don't ride in the rain, you don't ride," said retired Marine Jerry "Bear" Triplett. Triplett is Vice President of the group.

"There are so many veterans returning now," said Triplett. "They're looking for a better way of life, more education, and in today's world, you definitely need it. Veterans take care of veterans, and that's why we're here."

Club members say their goal it to give servicemembers the education they deserve.
