Meridian School Could Win Nationwide Contest

By WSIL Reporter

PULASKI CO. -- Meridian school district is asking for help winning a nationwide grant contest.
State Farm is giving 40 school districts $25,000 each. Two hundred schools are in the running in the contest. The top vote-getters in an online poll will receive the grants.
Meridian plans to use the money to build a playground and put new shelves in the library.  Staff had to consolidate the entire school district into one library when black mold forced the grade school to be condemned last year.
Students have had the chance to play outside, but there haven't been swings or any other types of equipment.
"Imagine when you were in school and how the joy you had when you got to go to recess, and imagine that not being there," said Elementary Principal Brent Borren.
"We need all the help that we can get, and we will just be eternally grateful to everyone who can help us," said librarian Louis Shaw.

Voting is open through Friday using The State Farm Neighborhood Assist on Facebook. You can vote up to 10 times a day. Click here to vote. (You will have to log into Facebook once you click the link.)
