PINCKNEYVILLE-- Hundreds of people gathered in Perry County to play golf in memory of a young man killed earlier this year.

More than 30 teams played in the First Annual Memorial Fundraiser for Jeremy Nerhkorn. Nerhkorn was killed in March when his truck was struck by a train just east of Pinckneyville

He left behind a loving family and his baby daughter, Alivia.

She was born with a cleft palate and will need at least one more surgery.

Saturday's event was organized by friends of Jeremy's wife to cover Alivia's medical expenses. The event has been met with overwhelming support from the community.

Jeremy's father, John Nerhkorn, believes his son would be overwhelmingly grateful to see so many come to the aid of his little girl.

"There's just no words to describe how grateful we are to everybody," said Nerhkorn. "People have opened their hearts and opened their wallets, and we've got a lot of people praying for us. We can't say enough."

The event also featured auctions, a cake walk, and a dinner.
