Marion Man Sentenced to 14 Years in Prison
MARION -- A man accused of a deadly 2011 shooting in Marion will spend more than a decade in prison.
Dominique Smith, 26, of Marion, was sentenced Wednesday to 14 years in prison for aggravated discharge of a firearm.
Smith was originally charged with murder for the shooting death of 46-year-old Marcus Monroe outside Pips II bar in July 2011.
As part of a plea agreement in July 2013, the murder charge was dropped.
Smith and a second suspect, Tyree Neal, were arrested more than a year after Monroe's death.
Neal faced weapons charges in connection with the shooting. In January 2013, he pled guilty to aggravated battery and was sentenced to two years probation.
