MARION -- It was a colorful start to Labor Day in Marion. The Lighthouse Shelter hosted its third annual 5K run/walk, and this year it was a color run.

Participants were covered with colorful powder at various points throughout the 3.1 mile course. All the money raised from the event goes to the Lighthouse Homeless Shelter in Marion. They provide shelter and meals to more than 400 people a year.

"This is for ongoing support," says Lighthouse Board President Wanda Zwick. "We're supported by the community. Churches, clubs, organizations and individuals. And this is just one of our fundraisers to help raise money for that support."

"It was fun," adds Brody Whitehead of Goreville. "I think I ate more powder than I wore. But I would definitely do one again."

More than 350 people took part in the color run this morning. The Lighthouse Shelter serves people in Williamson and all surrounding counties.
