MARION -- Marion Fire Chief Jack Reed is stepping down.

Reed will retire next month after 34 years with the Marion Fire Department. He's served as the department's chief for the last five years.

Reed is taking on a new job as director of the Marion Parks and Recreation District. While he's looking forward to the change, he says the move is bittersweet.

"What I'll remember the most is the times and experiences I was blessed to have been able to help folks."

Reed's last day with the fire department is August 22. He'll begin his new position on September 1. The Marion City Council will appoint a new fire chief.
