Local Schools Take Part in National Preparedness Month

By WSIL Reporter

CRAINVILLE -- Local schools will take time this month to put students through disaster drills.

The staff at Robin's Nest Learning Center in Crainville conducted an earthquake drill Tuesday. Preschool students were instructed to get under tables to protect themselves.
Robin's Nest Assistant Director Jena Parson says it also gives teachers a chance to reassure students.
"Knowing that we take the proper caution and do what we need to do to make sure the kids know," says Parson. "We talk to them about it. This is what could happen and this is why we do the drills, that way they understand that we do them for a specific reason."
Geologists say our region has a high possibility of a major earthquake in the next 50 years along the New Madrid Fault in Southeast Missouri.
