CARTERVILLE -- Dozens of golfers hit the links to support our military Monday when the Crab Orchard Golf Club held its annual Folds of Honor event.

The nationwide organization helps families of fallen U.S. troops with scholarships and other assistance. The Patriot Guard led a procession and local boy scouts carried in flags before the golf scramble got underway. Families of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice were presented with special flags.

"One of the hardest things for anyone is the loss of a loved one," says Tony Biata of Folds of Honor. "But you know something if we talk about those people and we remember them. And we show them honor, then they're still here. A little part of them are here with us."

This was the third year Folds of Honor was held at Crab Orchard Golf Course. Similar events took place today across the country.
