Last Minute Shoppers Seek Final Holiday Gifts
MARION -- Christmas Eve: the last day of the holiday shopping season, but for many local retail stores it can be one of the busier days of the year.
"I'm usually done by now," said Marion shopper Khara Kelly. "This is unusual for me."
Kelly is just one of thousands of last minute holiday shoppers across the country. She says it's a little stressful as she rushes to find a store that carries a few of the gifts her 5-year-old son has been asking for all year.
"I'm going to try to go to CVS and Fred's. They are my last hope," said Kelly.
For others, like Debbie Jeralds, Christmas Eve shopping represents some of the best deals of the season.
"They always put this great big sale on toys," said Jeralds. "Sometimes if you wait until the week of, you will get better deals."
She says she got most of her shopping done weeks ago, but had some last second items to collect Tuesday night.
"It's for my granddaughter," said Jeralds. "She wants a combine and I got it in layaway and I am going to get it out for her today."
Marion's Stephanie Ross also had a couple things left on the list, mainly for her 9-year-old daughter.
"I am looking for some dolls, some religious material and a few books," said Ross.
The reason for her last minute shopping? A recent move to the area put her behind her typical holiday schedule.
"My daughter is in transition from a new school so I guess the trends are a little different here so we are just catching on to different things that are popular with the kids," said Ross.
