Jury Selection Underway in 2011 Murder Trial

MARION -- Jury selection is underway in the murder trial of Cindy Stearns.

Stearns, 54, of Herrin, is charged with killing her father, Charles James, in May 2011. James, 73, was shot to death and his girlfriend injured at a home in Freeman Spur.

Stearns, along with Kate Bodie, 38, of Herrin, and Bodie's son, Joshua Dallacosta, 18, were each charged with two counts of first degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm in the case.

In Nov. 2012, Bodie pleaded guilty to one count of murder and was sentenced to 50 years in prison. Dallacosta was found guilty during a bench trial in Sept. 2013 and was sentenced to 45 years in prison.
