MT. VERNON -- There's a new non-profit organization in Jefferson County. It's a watchdog group that says it will be keeping a close eye on local government officials.

The group is called Concerned Citizens of Jefferson County and consists of six local men and women. They say they're a non-partisan organization that wants to hold officials accountable and increase public participation in county issues.

"People are concerned, people would like someone to basically keep these boards accountable and get the information to the public so they can better understand it," explains group President Dan Black.

Group members must spend a minimum of five hours per month attending local government meetings. The organization plans to form their own website later this summer.
