Jackson County Takes Straw Poll for Republicans Candidates
MURPHYSBORO -- Jackson County republicans started a new tradition with their first-ever straw poll. Roughly 150 people came to the dinner at 17th Street Bar and Grill to get an early read on some of the biggest contested political races.
A few representatives for local candidates were among the attendees. Each person got to vote for which candidate they believed had the best chance of winning an election.
"It's kind of like a show of strength for the respective campaigns and the ones that go out and work and participate. Maybe gives us a little bit of the inside scoop to the strong campaign to carry into Novemeber," says Chris Grissom.
Kirk Dillard and his running mate Jil Tracy took first in the gubernatorial poll. Terri Bryant was the choice for State Representative. Bob Grogran got the not for State Treasurer, and Jim Oberweis won for the U.S Senate seat.
