Jackson County Murder Suspect Pleads Not Guilty

MURPHYSBORO -- A Cape Girardeau man has pleaded not guilty to murdering a woman and dumping her body in rural Jackson County.

Brandon Banks, 28, entered the not guilty plea Wednesday during a court appearance in Jackson County.

Banks is charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of Marsha Brown, 40, of Cape Girardeau. Brown's body was found Jan. 14 along Potter's Road near Makanda.

Banks was arrested two days later in St. Louis but fought extradition to Illinois. He returned to Jackson County earlier this month.

Banks is being held in the Jackson County Jail. A pretrial hearing has not yet been set.
