Inmates, Guards Injured in Interstate Crash
WASHINGTON CO. -- A bus carrying federal inmates crashed Sunday morning on Interstate 64, near the Scott Air force Base. Nine inmates and four prison guards were injured. The bus was heading to Jefferson City, Missouri from Kentucky.
The bus crashed into a concrete overpass pillar and overturned shortly before 5 a.m., shutting down a portion of the interstate for a few hours. Those injured were taken to an area hospital, but authorities say they were not life-threatening injuries. The rest of the inmates were taken to the St. Clair County jail in Belleville.
Illinois State Police is investigating, but say they don't believe the inmates had anything to do with the crash.
