Ina Police: Driver Linked to Identity Theft Ring
JEFFERSON COUNTY -- Police in Ina say a traffic stop may have uncovered an identity theft ring.
Jacequeline Elibert Martinez Lazo, 24, was taken into custody early Tuesday morning after an officer stopped her car on Interstate 57. Police say Lazo was speeding and under the influence of drugs.
During a search of her car, officers discovered drugs and equipment used to make fake IDs.
Ina Police Chief Travis Allen says Lazo may be connected to cases of identity theft in five states.
She's currently being held in the Jefferson County Detention Center on charges of driving under the influence of drugs, possession of drug equipment, obstructing justice, driving while license suspended and possession of a false ID.
Allen says his office is meeting with federal officials about the case and expects more charges to be filed.
