MARION -- Illinois State Police held their annual Motorcycle Safety Summit at Black Diamond Harley Davidson on Tuesday.

This is the third year for the summit. The event is designed to give motorcyclists extra tools for safety, in hopes of lowering the number of accidents.

In 2011, 14 motorcycle fatalities were reported in District 13, which covers seven local counties. Last year that number dropped to eight.

Troopers also conducted bike demonstrations to show riders the best safety practices.

"They need to be a lifelong learner. They need to come to this program with an open-mind and thinking, I'm excited to be here and I expect to learn something," says Trooper Joey Watson.

The summit was used to debunk some common myths about motor cycle accidents.
