CARBONDALE -- A homeless veteran from Marion is getting his life back on track.

We told you about World War II vet Samuel Samples last month. Our Unsung Hero, Shannon Wimberly, was raising money to find Samples a place to live.

As of Monday, Samples moved into an apartment he can call his own- thanks to $5,900 worth of donations.

"The boy upstairs is lookin' out for me, I guess. He has through the years ya know, it hasn't always been a good paradise or a good, good thing but I've survived," Samples said.

He was approved for his apartment on Friday, which happened to be his 89th birthday.
