HERRIN -- For one Herrin teacher, the return to the classroom Tuesday was even more special than usual.

Fourth grade teacher Marti Sutton was injured in a crash less than three weeks ago. Sutton was struck by a car while riding her scooter near the intersection of Pittsburg and Corinth Roads.

She's undergone extensive physical therapy, in hopes of returning for the first day of class.

"I think I healed so fast because I couldn't wait to get back to them. This is my family every year," Sutton explained.

Sutton is only approved to work part time right now, but she hopes to be back to business as usual soon. Until then, the students are enjoying signing her cast and pushing her down the halls in her wheelchair.
