WEST FRANKFORT -- Crews have cleared the scene of the tanker truck accident that happened at the intersection of Routes 37 and 149 Wednesday afternoon.  Pedestrian and vehicle traffic has returned to normal.  

Fire department personnel kept roads closed until this morning when the truck was turned upright and its contents, an epoxy resin, were offloaded to another tanker. After an investigation of the vehicle and the scene, authorities have determined that no product spilled from the tanker.

 

UPDATE 8:20  a.m.  July 10, 2014

WEST FRANKFORT -- Crews have reopened a section of road in West Frankfort.  Wednesday evening, a tanker truck carrying a hazardous material overturned at the intersection of Routes 149 and 37.  

The tanker was uprighted around 7 a.m. Thursday and was hauled away about an hour later.  The intersection reopened at 8:15 a.m.  No one was hurt.

 

UPDATE 6:28 a.m.  July 10, 2014

WEST FRANKFORT -- Crews are still on the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving an overturned tanker truck at Main Street and Logan Streets in West Frankfort. 

West Main Street at the incident site will remain closed until all spilled materials are cleaned up and removal of the vehicle is made. A portion of the area will remain closed to public access and it is requested that motorists and pedestrians still avoid travel in or near the incident site.

Emergency crews hope to reopen the road by 8 a.m.

WEST FRANKFORT -- More than 50 first responders were called to the intersection of Routes 37 and 149 Wednesday afternoon.

Officials say a tanker truck overturned and was leaking an epoxy resin. Crews kept traffic off Westbound 149. The tanker was leaking a resin that officials said was highly flamable.
 
Another tanker truck is being called in to offload the material. Crews will then be able to clean up the scene.
 
The driver was not hurt in the crash. The cause remains under investigation.
