CARTERVILLE-- Young women from all over Southern Illinois came together Saturday at John A. Logan College for the annual Southern Illinois Women's Teen Conference.

Girls from 7th grade to 12th were invited to attend the event. They heard from guest speakers, participated in sessions on varying topics, and got to browse through different informational booths. Organizers say this kind of even is important for young girls.

"We feel like we're giving something back to the girls, and it's well worth the effort," says Event Coodinator Jill Cash.

Yoga Instructor Jill Lewis adds, "Just the fact of learning something new, where now they can go out and say, 'oh yeah, yoga, I know that, I've done those moves.'"

Along with yoga, teens were offered self defense classes.  Adults also took part in the conference this year. A guest speaker spoke on the challenges that mothers encounter on daily basis.
