Foster and Adoptive Family Picnic at the Fair

By WSIL Manager

PERRY CO. -- The 29th Annual Foster and Adoptive Family Picnic returned to the Du Quoin State Fair.

The picnic is hosted by Illinois Elks Association and brings out hundreds of families. Organizers say it's a good way to show what foster and adoptive parents do for kids.
"Our foster parents and our adoptive parents run and take the hand of what we deal with on a daily basis," said DCFS Regional Administrator Derek Hobson. "They're the ones that dry the tears that our kids shed. They're the ones that embrace them, when they need to be embraced at the most hardest parts of their life, so we are appreciative of everything that they do."
This year, the Royal Family Kids Camp was the guest of honor. The group offers abused and neglected children in the region a positive camp experience.
