Fire Destroys Carbondale Home
CARBONDALE -- Some Carbondale residents are without a home after a devastating fire Saturday.
Flames broke out at a home on Allyn Street sometime after six Saturday morning. Firefighters say they got the 911 call from a neighboring home around 7:30 a.m. No one was home when the fire began. Officials say it took roughly a dozen firefighters to battle the flames, since the two-story home was an older structure.
"It was fully involved when we arrived. Firefighters could actually see the tower of smoke when leaving the station. So, we knew it had a head start on us," explains Fire Chief John Michalesko.
The home is a total loss, and a neighbor's car also suffered heat damage. Fire officials tell News Three the fire began in a bedroom and is most likely linked to a baseboard heater. But it's still under investigation.
