Wanted Cairo Man Turns Himself In

ALEXANDER CO. -- Illinois State Police now say 30-year-old Chauncy Hughes has turned himself in to authorities. He is currently being held at the Tri-County Detention Center.

ALEXANDER CO. -- Illinois State Police are now looking for the suspect of a Cairo shooting that killed a 22-year-old woman. Officials say 30-year-old Chauncy Hughes is on the run.
Authorities say Cairo Police responded to 733 35th street around 8:30 Friday evening for a person not breathing.
Officers found 22-year-old Heather Davis, who had been shot. Davis was transported to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri where she was pronounced dead.
Davis was married to Hughes. He is described as a black male, 5 feet 9 inches tall, and approximately 150 pounds. Hughes is wanted on an Alexander County warrant for First Degree Murder.
Anyone with information regarding Hughes's whereabouts should call either their local police department, the Illinois State Police, or the Alexander County Sheriff's Office.
ALEXANDER CO. -- County authorities say a woman was shot to death at a home at 733 35th street in Cairo. The Sheriff's office says they found the woman unresponsive when deputies arrived around 8 p.m. Friday night. They remained on scene until 6 a.m. Saturday morning.
There is an investigation into what happened. Cape Girardeau County Coroner John Clifton confirmed that he was brought in to sign the death certificate, citing the cause of death as a gunshot wound. At this time, an autopsy hasn't been scheduled.
