FRANKLIN CO. -- One man is seriously injured after an explosion at a house in West Frankfort.

The explosion happened around 12:20 Sunday afternoon at a house on 808 East Clark Street. A 20-year-old man inside the home was flown to St. Louis for burns.

The house was destroyed and had to be torn down by the several fire departments on the scene.

A neighbor was in his garden when the explosion occurred. He said it was like nothing he had ever heard before.

"I could almost feel like a burst of wind hit me in the chest," said Robbie Stanley. "I mean it wasn't just like it was a bang. It was a loud explosion."

One firefighter also hurt his ankle on scene.

West Frankfort Police are now investigating. They hope to be back at the scene on Monday along with the State Fire Marshall.
