Dunn, Legislators Show Support for Daily Egyptian

CARBONDALE -- There's a new deal to try to save the student newspaper at SIUC.

SIU President Randy Dunn, Board of Trustees Chairman Randal Thomas and southern Illinois legislators agree a new student fee is the best option to support the DE.

They're calling on trustees to approve the $9 fee before July 1 so it could take effect with the Fall 2014 semester.

The agreement comes after Dunn met with state lawmakers this week and considered seeking state funding for the paper.
