JACKSON COUNTY -- Authorities are investigating the drowning of a Jackson County toddler.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office was called out at 7:30 p.m. Monday to a residence on Orchard Hill Road, south of Murphysboro.

Lieutenant Mike O'Leary says the body of a two-year-old boy was discovered in a sewer lagoon on the property. Authorities say the boy had wandered away from his parents.

An autopsy has been scheduled. The drowning is under investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Jackson County Coroner's Office, and the Department of Children and Family Services.
