Crime Tracker: Man Accused of Soliciting Child for Sex
WSIL -- Police say 31-year-old James David King of Harrisburg sent sexual messages by computer and phone to a young girl. The victim's family is now speaking out.
Finding their child has been violated over the phone and internet is a parent's worst nightmare. Having the man arrested was a Pope County family's first goal. Now they hope sharing this story will save others the same fate.
"We're still just shocked. How many lives David King has not destroyed but just broke all of our hearts," shared Diana Barger.
She's the victim's grandmother and says King was dating a relative in the family. He was around the girl this summer in Pope County.
"She was just getting to be 12 years old," she said.
Barger says the family recently checked the girl's computer and discovered King was sending sexually explicit messages.
"First of all... my insides were shaking. I got very sick in my stomach," explained Barger.
They contacted police in the girl's hometown of Calhoun County and officers launched an undercover investigation.
"He fell for it hook, worm and all," she said.
Police say King asked for nude pictures from the 12-year-old, seduced her, while grooming her for future sexual acts.
"David went into nasty, the nastiest details. He went through lots of details of what he'd like to do," Barger said.
He was arrested earlier this week at his job at Harrisburg's Rural King. The multiple felony charges carry the potential for years behind bars.
"Anytime you deal with this topic you want to take a hard approach to it," Calhoun County State's Attorney Rick Ringhausen added.
Barger says King stole her granddaughter's innocence, leaving her childhood shattered.
"Right now she feels dirty. She feels sick minded. She feels like people won't love her because of what happened," said Barger.
The arrest brings some closure, but Barger fears there are other victims.
"My granddaughter is not the first one because he immediately went into very detailed sexual things he was wanting to do," Barger worried.
King appears in court for the first time January 10th. He's in jail on $100,000.
