Crime Tracker: Livingston Cold Case
JACKSON COUNTY-- This week marks the eight year anniversary of Ryan Livingston's murder. Countless tips have come in over the years, but police are still waiting for the right one
The unsolved case continues to haunt Ryan's family, and people in the community. For relatives, the pain has dulled, but never completely. The nightmare won't be over until they get answers about the night Ryan was murdered.
“You drive down the road and see some place that you've been with 'em or you hear a song on the radio and [it] starts to tear you apart,” Denise Livingston admitted.
Her 22-year-old son was walking down the 300 block of West Walnut Street in Carbondale alone back on July 16, 2006. Police say he was approached by two men just before 11 p.m., stabbed and left for dead, in an apparent robbery gone wrong.
Denise says the pain never goes away.
“Why would you do such a thing for a lousy couple of dollars? I think he left home with $4.00 in his pocket,” she recalled, “He was a kind person. He loved cats, he loved kids, and he most of all loved his little girl.”
That baby girl is 10 now, growing up without her father, and without answers. Denise thinks it was a random crime, committed by someone from the area.
The hardest part?
“Not having Ryan around ever since he died, you know, you keep waiting for him to walk through the door and say ‘Hi Mom’ you know with that big grin of his,” she added.
Deputy Chief Stan Reno says his department has had persons of interest in the case, but never enough evidence to charge someone.
“We haven't forgotten about Ryan,” urged Reno.
Even though it was a busy night, along a heavily traveled road, no tip has cracked open the case yet.
“It is something I take personal, personal in the sense that I want to see justice for the family,” explained Reno.
“I miss him. I wish he could help us and help us solve his case. I've felt him around me a lot of times,” Denise said.
There is a $6,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest. The Facebook page for the cause is called Remember Ryan. Anyone with tips about the case should contact police immediately.
