Crash Slows Traffic on I-24 Bridge
MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY -- Eight people were sent to the hospital after a crash on the Interstate 24 bridge Friday.
The McCracken County Sheriff says a car stalled in the eastbound lanes of the bridge just after 1:00 p.m. As traffic slowed to avoid that car and the responders assisting it, three vehicles collided.
Investigators say Diane Rose Zimmerman, of Barnett, Missouri, crashed the minivan she was driving into an SUV. A semi then ran into Zimmerman's ivan. The impact caused the van to rear-end the SUV a second time.
Authorities say the driver of the SUV and seven passengers in the van were hurt. They were taken to nearby hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
Eastbound traffic was shut down for an hour and a half Friday, while crews cleaned up the crash site. An investigation is ongoing.
