Carbondale Lights Fantastic Stroll
CARBONDALE -- Carbondale community leaders were not about to let 2013 end without their annual Lights Fantastic tradition, even if it didn't come in parade form. All the lit up floats could be seen Saturday evening at SIU. Families could walk around the parking lot and get an up-close view of each float.
Parade committee members decided this was the best option after last week's snow storm cancelled the parade for the first time in 23 years. And many people say they were glad it happened.
"We've actually just moved back into the area from Hawaii, so this was our first Christmas in a while. I've grown up in the area and so I was really excited for this parade, since the last time I saw it I think it was, like, five," explains Carbondale resident Christine Crites.
You can catch another light show in Du Quoin this weekend. The Holiday Lights Fair is going on this weekend and next on the state fair grounds. Folks are invited to come from 5:30 to 9:30 Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
