Carbondale Farmer's Market Says Thank You
CARBONDALE -- There was a tasty treat for Carbondale farmer market shoppers Saturday, as appreciation for their support for nearly 40 years. Chefs from SIU came out to grill up some fresh produce, free of charge, for market goers.
Farmers and various vendors get together every Saturday, rain or shine, to provide the community with fresh produce and a place to socialize. They also help the community through their donations.
"All of our growers are so generous and they contribute fresh fruit and vegetables to the food pantries," says Ann Stahlheber, the farmer's market manager.
The Good Samaritan House collects the unsold produce to distribute in their food pantry and local soup kitchens. The farmers market will run every week until the last weekend of November.
