CARBONDALE -- An old library building in Carbondale is getting new life.

Carbondale Community Arts is turning the facility at 304 West Walnut Street into its new headquarters. The building will have office space, an art gallery, stage, and gift shop. The group is raising money for the project... and needs about 80-thousands dollars to finish.

The building was originally home to the Carbondale Public Library, and more recently served as the Christian Science Reading Room.

CCA President Gary Kolb says the center will be an investment in the city's future.

"We're part of that creative economy setting, and the more that we can bring to the table the more activity we can generate in this area of downtown, the better it's going to be for everyone in Carbondale."

The new CCA building is expected to be complete by this fall. For the grand opening, the group is piecing together a mosaic out of small canvas works done by local artists. It will be the centerpiece for their first exhibit.
