Campus Lake Walk Against Diabetes
CARBONDALE -- Hundreds took advantage of the fine weather to walk for a good cause.
Students and community members gathered together for the second annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk. Organizers say they wanted to host it on SIU's campus because more and more young adults are being diagnosed with type one Diabetes. The purpose of the walk is to raise money for research to help find a cure.
"What we have to remember is that research is the only future to destroying diabetes. We have to raise the money. We have to make it happen," says Marie Davis, event Executive Director of southern Illinois.
Organizers say they surpassed goal of bringing in $30,000.
