Cairo Man Pleads Guilty to 2010 Home Invasion
CAIRO -- An Alexander County man accused of a deadly 2010 home invasion has pleaded guilty.
Willie Williams, 56, was arrested in April 2010 for breaking into an elderly Cairo woman's home. Authorities said Williams tied up the 92-year-old, punched her several times, and stole a television. The victim died two months later.
Alexander County State's Attorney Jeff Farris tells News 3 that Williams was found unfit to stand trial twice as the case progressed. After being ruled mentally fit, Farris says Williams pled guilty October 11 to one count of home invasion, a class X felony. Four other charges, including murder, were dropped.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for November 8. Williams faces up to 60 years in prison.
