One Person Dead After Saline County Accident
***UPDATED 3:10 p.m. WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 6, 2014***
SALINE CO. -- Illinois State Police have released more information about a fatal traffic accident in Saline County.
It happened just before 6 a.m. Wednesday on Route 34 approximately a quarter-mile south of Womble Road.
Police say a 2014 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by James N. Certain, 41, of Equality, was southbound on Route 34 but had moved into the northbound lane to avoid an animal alongside the road. A northbound Chrysler Pacifica drove into the southbound lane to avoid a crash, but the two vehicles collided when the semi also returned to the southbound lane.
The driver of the Pacifica, Cheryl R. Shaffer, 61, of Rosiclare, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Certain was not injured. He has been cited for improper lane usage.
Illinois State Police continue to investigate. Route 34 was closed for approximately four hours.

SALINE COUNTY -- The Saline County Sheriff's Office says Route 34 South has reopened.

SALINE COUNTY -- One person is dead after an early morning accident on Route 34 in Saline County. Illinois State Police Trooper Mark Zimmerman says one person in the car died from their injuries.
The car collided with a semi around 6:30 Wednesday morning. No names are being released at this time.

SALINE COUNTY -- Crews are on the scene of an accident on Route 34 in Saline County. The crash happened early Wednesday morning south of Womble Road south of Harrisburg.
A viewer sent us these pictures of the scene. At least one of the vehicles went up in flames. There are no reports of injuries or names at this time.
