JACKSON COUNTY --  The Jackson County Sheriff's Office  had a bomb scare Saturday. Police say a mentally unstable man brought military flares to the parking lot in Murphysboro.

The man told a deputy he had two military flares inside his vehicle. He made no threats to harm anyone and told police he wanted to turn them over to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

For an extra measure of caution, the Carbondale Police and SIU Police Department bomb squad responded to the scene. Inmates inside the Jackson County jail were moved to another cell block, and people at the Brews Brother's Tap Room were asked to leave the area.

The bomb squad found no explosive material and declared the scene safe around 8:15 Saturday night.

The man was taken for mental health care at a local hopsital. No criminal charges are expected.
