CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The bomb squad was called after a Friday morning bank robbery in Cape Girardeau.

It happened around 9:35 a.m. at the Bank of Missouri on Broadway.

Darin Hickey with the Cape Girardeau Police Department says the man demanded cash and left a suspicious item on the bank's counter before taking off on foot.

Because of comments the man had made, Hickey says the Southeast Missouri Regional Bomb Squad was called. One block of Broadway was closed and schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution until the scene was cleared.

No one was injured. The bank robbery is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Cape Girardeau Police Department at (573) 335-6621
