MT. VERNON -- Plans for the new Mt. Vernon High School will not include a theater or football field.

The project was $6 million dollars over budget. For the past several weeks, district leaders have debated how to cut costs.

On Monday, the board decided to omit both the theater and football field. The move lowers construction costs to $70.3 million,  $2.5 million dollars under budget.

Board members plan to rebid parts of the project and say if they can find funding, the theater and football field may be added later.

The new Mt. Vernon High School is scheduled to be finished in January 2016.
