HERRIN -- Folks in Herrin were having a good time Saturday during a block party fundraiser. The event was organized by the Rock and Roll Church of Cape Girardeau, but it benefits the Herrin House of Hope, a local food pantry and soup kitchen. House of Hope serves nearly 100 people three times a week.

Director John Steve says they hope the event can bring in more support from the community.

"We want to become fully operational. So, we want to make it more aware to the community what it going on and to have more participation from the community."

There was a canned food drive, a bake sale, live music, and raffles. Organizers estimate they raised around $200.
