BENTON -- The streets of Benton were lined with thousands of people for the Rend Lake Water Festival Parade on Saturday.

It began in 1971 as a way to promote the local businesses. There were several groups participating in this year's parade, from local fire departments and marching bands, to several churches businesses and the shriners.

"We're trying to bring something positive, you know, something to get people's mind off of everyday life and have some fun. Bring the kids, it's a family-friendly event," says co-coordinator Steven Browning.

Organizers say the festival is a great way to promote tourists to Rend Lake.
