Dozens of Schools Attend Miners and Kids Day
MARION-- The Southern Illinois Miners held their annual Miners and Kids Day Tuesday.
A total of 3,659 students from 37 area schools attended the exhibition game against the Gateway Grizzlies.
The event is seen as an award day for elementary and junior high students, and it gives the students a break from class.
Carterville Junior High student, Jack Currie, says his favorite part of the day was being able to be outside.
"if it could be this nice every day for summer it would be awesome."
Other students enjoyed being able to see this year's Miners team play for the first time.
"It's nice to see the team before everyone else does," said Carterville Junior High student, Connor Henderson.
The Miners won the game by 3 to 2 in ten innings. The Miners will start their regular season on May 17th.
