Amy Center Celebrity Waiter Dinner

By WSIL Manager

MT. VERNON -- It was a big night in Mt. Vernon Saturday evening, as dozens of people came together for the Amy Center Celebrity Waiter Dinner. It's the sixth year for the event and roughly 200 people were expected to attend.

The dinner raises funds for the Amy Center, a seven-county advocacy center for children who've been sexually abused. Founder Dennis Schulz came up with idea 25 years ago after his daughter was kidnapped and murdered.

"It's been a long time now, but a lot people remember what happened then and we just want to protect the other kids that are out there now, so it doesn't happen to them," says Schulz.

He says the fundraiser typically brings in between $8,000-$10,000 in donations.
