INA -- The Illinois Department of Corrections tells News 3 that the two inmates who instigated the fight were transferred to a maximum-security facility the same day as the incident.
The department is also asking the Jefferson County State's Attorney's Office to consider charges against the pair.
INA -- Two correctional officers were injured during a fight between inmates at Big Muddy River prison in Ina.
Tom Shaer, spokesperson for the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC), says a fight between three inmates broke out Sunday morning as they were on their way to the dietary building.
Two officers were injured in the fight. According to Shaer, the officers were evaluated in the healthcare unit of the prison, and one was then taken to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Mt. Vernon where he was treated and released.
AFSCME representative Steve Joiner says the second officer was taken by personal vehicle for medical treatment and was also then released.
The prison was on lockdown for several hours Sunday. Shaer says an investigation was conducted and the inmates who caused the fight have been punished.
Joiner believes the lockdown was not long enough for a proper investigation to be conducted.
