Class Act: Uncle Ben's Cooking Contest
MARION -- A first grader at Washington Elementary School in Marion is using her skills in the kitchen to help her school.
Hayven Pasoni, 7, is part of the Uncle Ben's Beginners Cooking Contest.
She and her mom Stacy came up with a recipe for Far-Out Fajitas.
"My mom used to go to my school. She went her a long time ago," said Hayven.
Forty years ago to be exact, and members of Stacy's family worked in the cafeteria at Washington.
Your votes can help Haven's recipe win, which means the school would receive $30,000 for a cafeteria makeover. It's something that excites principal Jami Hodge.
"If you ask any kid or adult what their favorite part of the day is, they're going to say lunch. So we would love to update the place and make it fun and exciting and more enjoyable for the kids," said Hodge.
The grand prize also includes $15,000 for Hayven and a guest spot on the Rachael Ray Show, right here on WSIL.
"We appreciate the work Stacy and Miss Hayven have done. She is the star. We're hoping with the help we can push through," said Hodge.
"If we win, we're going to get a new makeover for the cafeteria, and I'm going to give money to the kids who don't have homes and needs presents and they don't have food," said Hayven.
Voting ends on October 27. You can click the link above to cast your vote, type in Marion's zip code of 62959 and you'll find Far-Out Fajitas.
