Class Act: Gallatin County Hawks

GALLATIN CO. -- Gallatin and Hardin counties are usually rivals on the baseball field, but a recent tragedy brought the two communities together.

"They've always proven themselves to be a high character group. They always seem to do the right thing," explained Gallatin County coach David Cruson.

Hardin County teacher and athletic director Tammy Conn was killed in a car crash in March. After learning of Conn's death, seniors at Gallatin County wanted to know what they could do to help.
"When something like that happens everything else is set aside," said Gallatin County senior Jared Jackson.
So they had personalized baseball bats made for Conn's husband and family.
"When they came to me with this idea, I wasn't surprised at all that they wanted to do something. It just speaks volumes to how good these kids are," Cruson said.
Jackson and teammate Zach McGuire took the project into their own hands and had the bats made in Hardin County team colors. The Gallatin County team then signed and presented the bats to the Conn family.
"I couldn't imagine what they are going through, we just knew that we had to do something. Even though it might not heal everything, we knew that it would help a little bit," explained McGuire.
"The boys handed me the bats, and you think that all these boys think about is baseball. The Gallatin County boys really all have big hearts, and it means a lot that young guys would think of something like that in memory of someone. It means a lot to me, my son, and my daughter," said Paul Conn.
