Back-to-School Supply Drives and Giveaways

WSIL -- As kids head back to the classroom, several organizations are working to make sure they have the supplies they need. Below is a list of school supply drives and giveaways. If you know of a back-to-school drive that is not on our list, please send the information to


School Supply Drive
Hamilton County

School supplies are being collected at the First United Methodist Church, First General Baptist Church, City Hall, or the Hamilton County Unit #10 Office, all located in McLeansboro. The items will then be distributed to Hamilton County students during the district-wide school registration event August 5-7 at the Jr/Sr High School.

Supplies needed:
*Note cards
*Colored pencils and crayons
*Composition notebooks
*Glue sticks
*Pencil boxes

Free lunch (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.) with donation

*College and wide ruled notebooks
*Black ink pens

Eligibility Requirements: Any Jefferson County child with a medical card is eligible for the Stuff the Bus program. Medical card must be presented at supply pickup.

Free school supplies, haircuts, music activities, hot dogs, chips, sno-cones. Student must be present to receive school supplies. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Davie School

Building tours, meet and greet with teachers. Local churches will be giving out free school supplies to Davie students in attendance.


Back to School Carnival
Thursday, August 14   5:30 p.m.
Lincoln Elementary School

Free food, games, bounce houses and building tours. Local churches will be giving out free school supplies to all Lincoln students in attendance.


Carbondale Church of Christ Annual Giveaway Day
Saturday, August 23   9 a.m. - 11 a.m.

The Carbondale Church of Christ will offer free household items to college students and the community. Residents are asked to be mindful of others and take only what they need. Donations will be accepted beginning August 1. If you have items to donate, call the church at (618) 457-5105 or email
